Specialist meat supplier provides pork, beef and lamb for Michelin-starred restaurants
Rare-breed meat supplier Huntsham Heritage Meats has been purchased by Suffolk farming business David Black & Son, trading as Blacks of Bacton.
The acquisition should secure the future of the UK traditional breed pork, beef and lamb producer.
The purchase links the established farming business with a specialist meat brand that supplies Michelin-starred restaurants including Sketch, Gravetye Manor and the Oxford Kitchen.
Huntsham Heritage Meats was established by Richard and Rosamund Vaughan and has built a following among chefs for its Middle White pork, Longhorn beef and Ryeland lamb. The Vaughan family has decided to step back from the business after nearly 30 years developing the brand.
The company will trade under the Huntsham Heritage Meats name and supply restaurants and private customers as before.
Blacks of Bacton has farmed in Suffolk since 1898 and today operates a diversified business including arable farming, pig production and rural enterprises. The purchase of Huntsham Heritage Meats is intended to strengthen the company’s presence in premium food supply and provenance-driven meat production.
Blacks’ managing director Stephen Urwin said the move reflects increasing demand from chefs and consumers for high-quality, traceable British meat.
“Breeds such as Middle White pigs and Longhorn cattle are widely valued in professional kitchens for their depth of flavour and consistency, making them particularly suited to modern British menus that emphasise provenance, sustainability and whole-animal cookery,” he said. “Huntsham Heritage Meats has developed an exceptional reputation in those areas, with the ability to produce speciality products like suckling pig or dry-aged pork and beef and we are excited to support the next stage of its growth.”
Huntsham’s Richard Vaughan added: “Huntsham has always been about producing exceptional meat from traditional breeds and supplying customers who truly value quality. Blacks understand that philosophy and we are delighted the business will continue in safe hands.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
