KP of the Year recognises hard-working kitchen porters from across the hospitality industry but be quick, nominations close next week

There is only one week to go to nominate your KP for the Kitchen Porter (KP) of the Year 2025.
Entries have to be submitted before 5pm on Friday 29 August, so don’t miss your chance to recognise your KP’s hard graft throughout the year.
The competition, organised by The Caterer in partnership with warewasher specialist Winterhalter, is free to enter and simply requires answering a few questions. You can nominate as many KPs as you like, and the competition is open to every sector of the hospitality industry.
The winner will receive a prize package that includes the coveted KP of the Year trophy, a piece of Winterhalter kit worth up to £10,000 for the winning KP’s employer, £1,000 in vouchers and a celebratory meal with friends and family in a casual dining restaurant of the KP’s choice.
The winning KP’s triumph will also be immortalised in the KP of the Year website’s hall of fame, gaining them further deserved plaudits.
Nominate your KP in the 2025 competition.
Ten KPs are selected for the shortlist before the winning KP is chosen by an expert judging panel.
Last year’s victor, Marito Pires De Sousa, a kitchen porter at Mollie’s Motels, in Oxfordshire, was recognised for supporting many roles at Mollie’s, including assisting with maintenance and equipment upgrades that could enhance workflow and efficiency, housekeeping, volunteering to cover shifts at other sites when needed, and stepping in to help the food prep team without being asked.
Regarding his win, Pires De Sousa said: “I’m incredibly happy, thank you so much to Mollie’s for the nomination! Thank you for choosing me to win this award. My family and my entire island [Atauro in East Timor] are so proud of me. It means so much to me.”
So, if you have a KP who deserves to be recognised, then we want to hear from you.
