Roland Fasel was previously chief operating officer at Aman Resorts and UK regional director at Dorchester Collection
Roland Fasel, the former chief operating officer at Maybourne Group, has been appointed president at Singapore-based Capella Hotel Group.
From 6 April, the luxury hotelier will oversee Capella Hotels and Resorts’ and Patina Hotels & Resorts’ global expansion plans. The group is seeking to double its 12-strong portfolio by 2030.
He joins from Maybourne Group, where he spent the past three years leading operations across Claridge’s, the Connaught, the Berkeley, the Maybourne Beverly Hills and the Maybourne Riviera.
Fasel also oversaw the launch of the Emory in London’s Mayfair, in addition to wellness brand Surrenne.
Prior to Maybourne Group, he spent six years as chief operating officer at Aman Resorts, spearheading the opening of properties including Amanyangyun in China, Aman Kyoto in Japan and the Aman New York.
He was also general manager at Badrutt’s Palace in St Moritz, general manager of the Dorchester for nine years and UK regional director at the Dorchester Collection, overseeing Coworth Park and 45 Park Lane.
He began his career in the industry with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in the United States before taking on his first general manager role with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts.
Evan Kwee, vice chairman, Capella Hotel Group, said: “Roland brings the rare combination of strategic vision and operational expertise to lead Capella Hotel Group through its next chapter of growth. He has transformed iconic properties by elevating both culture and performance – proving that excellence in luxury hospitality is both an art and a discipline. As we expand globally, we need a leader who can strengthen our competitive position while deepening the culture that differentiates us.”
Fasel said in a post on LinkedIn: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to sit at the operational helm of some of the world’s greatest hotels here at Maybourne over the past three years.
“As I move on to a new personal career chapter, I wish them the very best on what is undoubtedly and exciting journey ahead. Thank you to my colleagues and industry friends – until we meet again!”
Capella Hotels and Resorts operates properties across Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Ubud, Bangkok, Hanoi, Shanghai and Hainan, while Patina Hotels and Resorts has sites in the Maldives, the Fari Islands and Osaka, with more openings to come in mainland China.
