Michelin updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels
Twelve restaurants, including four within hotels, have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland’s selection in June.
Michelin updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels, with any additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol.
It does not confirm if the restaurants will receive a star, Bib Gourmand or any other awards until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony.
New additions include Allt Yr Afon at Wolfscastle Country hotel in southwest Wales, a six-table restaurant with a concise à la carte menu praised for its pistachio souffle and service delivered with “palpable pride”
Harry’s at the Gallivant hotel in Rye (pictured), which opened earlier this year, was recognised for its classically French cooking from ex-Bibendum chef Matthew Harris, while Michelin also praised the Gallery restaurant at the Cavendish hotel in the Peak District, which makes use of beef from the surrounding Chatsworth Estate.
The final hotel restaurant recognised was Kynd at Hampton Manor hotel in Hampton in Arden. Located in the walled garden’s old furnace house, dishes are cooked over coals and served with a list of natural, biodynamic and orange wines.
Other new additions to the guide include the Beckford Group’s Beckford Canteen in Bath, a modern British restaurant occupying a former Georgian greenhouse; the Bat & Ball pub in Cuddesdon, which Michelin said offers “serious” cooking while keeping a “pubby feel” with real ales and a dartboard; and Moss in Edinburgh, which serves complimentary Irn Bru candyfloss at the end of the meal.
In London, new additions include Japanese izakaya-style restaurant Himi in Soho, which was praised for its “wonderfully crisp fried chicken”; and Islington’s Goodbye Horses, a former pub transformed into a wine bar and restaurant which Michelin said was packed with “east London’s coolest diners”.
