The restaurant space has undergone a major redesign by Russell Sage Studio
Chef Matt Abé has opened the doors to his first solo fine dining restaurant in London today (4 November).
The former chef patron at three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has launched Bonheur by Matt Abé in the former Le Gavroche site in Mayfair.
It is being backed by Gordon Ramsay, who has secured a 15-year lease on the property, and has undergone a major redesign by Russell Sage Studio.
Guests enter through the lounge, which features comfortable seating and a semi-circular bar.
The subterranean dining room has been designed in cream, cocoa, rust and ochre colours inspired by Abé’s Australian roots. It includes sculptural waiter stations, bespoke floral displays, rare horsehair wallpaper, burgundy velvet banquettes and yellow leather tabletops.
Bonheur, which means ‘happiness’ in French, serves a menu with nods to Abé’s Australian background and Asian influences. Guests can choose from an á la carte menu or two tasting experiences: the five-course Journey and the seven-course Dream.
The six-seat chef’s table, ’Petit Bonheur’, serves the Dream menu and will see chefs explain the inspiration and craft behind each dish.
Keep an eye on The Caterer for an in-depth interview with Abé to be published soon.
