As the Corporate Guest Services Awards return for 2026, the industry is once again preparing to celebrate the individuals who set the benchmark for exceptional corporate hospitality across the UK and Ireland.

This year introduces an important development: the launch of the brand‑new Workplace Host of the Year category, expanding the competition to reflect the evolving expectations of today’s workplace environments.

The Caterer sat down with two key voices shaping this year’s awards, chair Dirk Talsma and head judge Giles Gordon‑Smith, to discuss the significance of the awards, the evolution of guest services, and what excellence looks like in 2026.

What makes the 2026 competition significant within the industry?

Dirk Talsma The Corporate Guest Services Awards continue to evolve alongside the industry, and 2026 represents another meaningful step forward. By introducing Workplace Host of the Year, we’re recognising the widening scope of guest‑services roles and the essential part these individuals play in modern workplace environments. The competition now reflects not only front of house excellence but also the broader hospitality ecosystem that supports daily workplace life.

Why was the Workplace Host of the Year category introduced this year?

Giles Gordon‑Smith Workplace hosts have become central to corporate hospitality. They help create community, support employees and ensure that every interaction contributes to a positive workplace experience. Recognising them formally was a natural next step. This category acknowledges how guest services now extend beyond traditional reception roles to include the people who make workplaces feel welcoming and connected.

How do you see guest‑services roles changing across the corporate sector?

Dirk Talsma Expectations have risen. Organisations want environments that feel warm, intuitive and seamless, and guest services teams are at the heart of delivering that. We’re seeing more emphasis on emotional intelligence, adaptability and empowered service. It’s no longer simply about greeting guests; it’s about creating an experience that stays with them.

What advice would you give to organisations considering entering the awards this year?

Giles Gordon‑Smith Look for individuals who elevate experiences – people who don’t just complete tasks but enhance moments. A nominee stands out when their impact reaches beyond the basics and contributes to culture, belonging and connection.

Dirk Talsma Nominees should embody consistency, authenticity and pride in what they do. These awards celebrate people who genuinely care about the experience they create, and that level of dedication is unmistakable.

What qualities do you expect to see from standout entrants in 2026?

Dirk Talsma Warmth, professionalism and the ability to anticipate needs. Strong entrants understand that every interaction matters, from the grand gestures to the smallest details. Consistent excellence is what truly sets standout nominees apart.

Giles Gordon‑Smith For me, it’s about authenticity. The best guest services professionals are those who bring individuality to their role and create a genuine sense of welcome. I’ll be looking for people who leave a memorable impression through sincerity and connection.

How do the awards support the growth of the guest‑services profession?

Dirk Talsma Recognition is powerful. These awards showcase the real career pathways available in guest services and highlight the depth of skill across the sector. They help raise the profile of roles that are often overlooked but essential to organisational culture.

What are you personally most looking forward to in this year’s competition?

Giles Gordon‑Smith Meeting the people behind the stories. Every year we uncover professionals who pour their heart into their work, and I’m excited to see the first‑ever Workplace Host of the Year nominees step into the spotlight.

Dirk Talsma I always look forward to seeing how nominees showcase their craft. The passion, creativity and dedication we see each year is inspiring, and I’m excited to witness how the new category broadens the range of talent we celebrate.

With its expanded categories and growing focus on workplace experience, the 2026 Corporate Guest Services Awards reflect the continued evolution of the guest‑services sector. As organisations increasingly prioritise hospitality‑driven environments, the awards offer a platform to recognise the professionals who make this possible, from receptionists and leaders to, now, workplace hosts shaping the heart of corporate communities.
